General info : Imprimerie G. De Malherbe Et Cie. was the business name of a company founded by Charles Louis Gustave Bonnet de Malherbe (born in Pau onJ une 10, 1856 and died in Guéthary on December 3, 1934), a French publisher and printer of books and prints, specializing in chromolithography. In 1890, he partnered with H.A. Cellot to create the printing and publishing company Nouvelles Affiches Artistiques, 54 rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs. The company was quickly singled out by the bookseller and print dealer Edmond Sagot in his 1891 catalogue, entirely devoted to illustrated posters. One of the artistic directors of Nouvelles Affiches artistiques was Eugène Grasset , who produced some of his finest work there for over a decade. Malherbe collaborated with other artists such as Gustave Fraipont , Maurice Réalier-Dumas , Louis Malteste , Maurice Pillard Verneuil , Auguste François-Marie Gorguet , Henri Thiriet … His company sometimes works with the printer Chaix, managed by Jules Chéret. After moving to 152 rue de Vaugirard in 1896, the company changed its name to Imprimerie de Vaugirard, G. de Malherbe et Cie. At the end of 1896, a prospectus concerning the decorative prints of Eugene Grasset mentions a second address, 13 impasse Ronsin. In 1902, he opened a new printing works in the back courtyard of the Passage des Favorites. This establishment very quickly became one of the leading printing houses in Paris thanks to its equipment and facilities, which incorporated and implemented the latest industrial advancements. In addition to regular work, the G. de Malherbe printing house printed a large number of important periodicals: Art et Décoration, Musica, La Revue de Madagascar, Le Figaro illustré , the supplements to L'Illustration , Le Tour de France , and Je sais tout in halftone. The printing works employs between 150 and 200 workers organized into an independent mutual aid society. The printing works generates a turnover of 1.3 million francs per year. His company was still active when he died onDecember 3, 1934, death hailed by Charles Peignot who saw in this man one of his masters.
